100 years on..look at us now!
Girl Guiding has come a long way since a small group of girls stepped forward at the 1909 Boy Scout rally at Crystal Palace Park and asked Robert Baden–Powell to develop a similar movement especially for them.

 

1st Groombridge Guides began in 1924 with the Brownies forming several years later in June 1953.  Guiding in Groombridge has not been continuous since it started with breaks notably during the Second World War.  There have been numerous leaders to date with several hundred girls coming through the unit.  Below are just some of the memories and photos.  If you have been a 1st Groombridge Brownie or Guide and would like to share your stories or photos with us, please Contact Us.
